About Us
Stephanie Paton School of Dance offers a wide range of classes for children from age 2yrs (even in nappies!). The School is based in Orrell/Billinge, Wigan and we offer classes in Ballet, Modern, Tap, Jazz/Street, Acro and Musical Theatre.
Students here at SPSD are also given the opportunity to take ISTD dance examinations in Ballet, Modern and Tap. Examinations are optional but are very rewarding, providing confidence with each grade progression. We are a certified school with Acrobatic Arts, which offers a perfect training programme to bring acrobatic steps into each dancer’s repertoire. By joining our school each child will be given the opportunity to perform in our showcases every 18 months at The Brindley Theatre. This is great for encouraging their inner performer and provides such a fun time for our dancers! If your child has a passion for dance and you would like to sign up for a free trial class, please contact us at stephaniepatondance@gmail.com

Classes

Tinies
We have our Tiny Toes class on Saturdays 8.55 - 9.40 for 2-4yrs.This is an introduction to ballet, modern and tap using imagery, and props such as scarves, wands and musical instruments.

Ballet
Ballet is considered to be the core subject of dance. It instils self-discipline in students and allows them to develop incredible strength, stamina, flexibility and artistry. It is equally fun and challenging. Older students will have the opportunity to progress on to pointework when they have developed enough strength and their body is physically ready.

Modern
Modern is a technical and very expressive dance form. At a young age children learn technique and musicality through stories and use of their imagination. As the grades progress, a higher standard of technique and strength is developed along with a mature and diverse performance style.

Tap
Tap is a wonderful way to develop musicality and rhythm through intricate footwork. Not only is it fun to make lots of noise, but the patterning skills learnt are believed to help with academic subjects too.

Jazz/Street
Jazz dance is a great way to get fit with a very energetic warm up, limbering section, technical steps and a fun routine to finish with. Jazz incorporates many different styles and is performed to modern, upbeat music. Street routines allow much more freedom, build confidence and encourage students to express themselves through musicality and movement.

Acro
Using the Acrobatics Arts syllabus we train dancers to bring acrobatic steps into their dance routines. Different sections to classes include strength, flexibility/limbering, balancing and tumbling. We ensure safe dance practice by making sure students progress through the advised levels and build enough strength and technique before attempting each new skill.

Musical Theatre
Musical Theatre classes are about building confidence through movement, acting and singing. It promotes performance, basic vocal technique, improvisation ability, and teaches young dancers all about different musicals and life on the stage.
